The PS3... Where to start?

Ah, the PS3...

There are many things to say about the PS3, but I can sum it all up in one sentence: it's not good. Basically, the PS3 is the average brain-melting video game system just with upgraded graphics. It's not that much fun, it's not very interactive, and most of the games are racing games or incredibly violent.

When Sony made the PS3, they were thinking that video games were going to stay the same. The Wii changed that and obviously, Sony was not ready for it. The PS3 does have some good features, it has good graphics and it does have a built-in Blu-Ray player which is useful and almost as cheap as getting a brand-new Blu-Ray player; but it just doesn't have the same un-solitary, party-like feeling of the Wii or even the Xbox 360.

Now that I am done ranting about the PS3, let's talk about the PS3 games. Most of them are not for anyone under than 10. Killzone 2... Fallout 3... big NO-NOs. This is not a child-friendly system seeing as 12% (that's a large number when it comes to games) are rated "M" which is for ages 17+.

Is there any light in the darkness that is the PS3? I think there is. Thy name is LittleBigPlanet. In my eyes, it is the best game for the PS3, hands down. It is amazingly customizable, breeds creativity, has no flying limbs (unlike Killzone 2) and is very user-friendly. So what is LittleBigPlanet? It is a user-generated game which basically means that you build a level then you try and solve it. You can control anything and move anything around. Literally, the sky is not the limit in this game (you can go into space and to other planets). But Ricky... what is LittleBigPlanet? Well, it's a game. A game in which you are a puppet. And you control stuff. You are actually a friendly alien that comes down to earth to solve puzzles and create levels out of ordinary items; levels that you then try to solve.

All in all, the only reasons to buy a PS3 are for the Blu-Ray player and LittleBigPlanet. That's it. It's not even fun...

Well then, that concludes another of our video game segment!
Check back soon for Xbox 360. Also coming soon, V-cast and all those other supposedly educational games.

  6. There are so many things wrong with what you've said. I'd like to do a point by point analysis, because I have that much time.

    1. Basically, the PS3 is the average brain-melting video game system just with upgraded graphics.

The PS3 is an awful gaming console. That being said, it's actually doing some good in the world, like aiding cancer research. http://www.scei.co.jp/folding/en/
Also, a console does not come with updated graphics. It comes with updated graphics processing potential. Graphics come with the software.

    2. It's not that much fun

"Not that much fun" is an opinion. Besides, you can't really say a console is "not that much fun". That's like saying a microwave doesn't taste that good. You don't eat the microwave, you eat what was cooked inside it. You could say the games on PS3 aren't that much fun, that would make sense. But it doesn't seem like you've played all that many of them, so that opinion would be irrelevant.

    3. It's not very interactive

How can a gaming console not be interactive? You use a controller to manipulate objects on a screen. That's interactive.

    4. Most of the games are racing games or incredibly violent.

If you have a problem with violent games, that's fine. The ESRB has standardized game ratings for a reason, and vendors ask for ID from anyone who buys a mature rated game. Having a problem with racing games is also fine, since they aren't fun, but once again, that's an opinion. On a side note, the majority of games developed for playstation are neither gratuitously violent nor racing games. You're making assumptions now, and that's just not good journalism.

    5. The PS3 is bad because it's not innovative, like the Wii.

The PS3 has tons of innovation from the previous console generation. In my opinion, it didn't pan out too well for Sony, since most of the new stuff they planned was crap, but that's that. If you look at console and game sales from the current generation, you'd see that although people may think they want a Wii, after they buy one they never buy games for it, because Wii games are all third party shovelware that have no gameplay value. Gamers don't want a deviation from the standard controller game, they just want games that utilize it to its fullest potential.

    6. Violent Games

We talked about this already, but I'll go back to it. You say most games aren't for people under 10, and you're right. Some games aren't made for children. That's why they have a rating system. Kids can't buy these games, and if they get them, it's coming from the parents. You also say 12% of games are rated M. That contradicts what you said earlier about "most games" being incredibly violent, violent games being the ones rated M. But I'll ignore that, we've seen how inconsistent you can be already. I'd just like to know what you mean by "that's a large number when it comes to games". 12% isn't a number, it's a percentage. And it's not "a lot" or "a little" for that matter, it's just 12%. Meaning 88% of games produced do not have an "Mature" rating.

Additionally, say what you want about the Killzone series, they're terrible games. But honestly, you should play Fallout before you criticize it. It's a work of art, and light on gratuitous violence.

Finally, I'd like to say I am in no way trying to call you out or ridicule you as a person. I think it's great that young writers have a medium like the internet to express their opinions. I just want people to know that all of your opinions in this column are wrong. Video games get enough flack without this baseless criticism giving people bias without reason.

  7. Do you have any opinions on sucking dick? You seem to be very proficient at it. Did your dad touch your cock when you were young and tell you that mommy would get mad at daddy if you told her? Go fuck yourself you piece of shit. No one loves you, and your parent's lives are ruined because they have a little shit like you for a kid.

  8. Jesus, internet. Calm down. I think it's great that younger kids are trying to be creative and expand on whatever their skills are. In this case, writing about games. I'm not saying that Ricky is 100% right.. But at least there's thought and effort put into this blog.
Also, incest jokes? Really? I'm pretty sure that if anyone's parents are regretting the birth of a child, it would be yours.
